These are the rugged foothills east of the town of Strunheim.
COMMON KNOWLEDGE
Vintners from the town grow vineyards on their western slopes and several desperate miners still perospect for the gold and pink gem deposits (rhodochrosite) that first brought settlers to the area.

PEOPLE OF GROGOUGH HIGHLANDS
Residents of Sturnheim grow vineyards on the western slopes and miners prospect throughout the hills. Most of these are human (with Nerathan and Shuntulkan lineages), though the odd dwarf or elf are found in their company.
The gnolls of the surrounding plains rarely climb into the heights here, but kobolds are a constant menace as they are in the gulches of the lower lands.
Remnants of the monstrous alliance that were likely responsible for Sturnheim's lost treasure are still in the area. Of particular note, are the many clutches of harpies in the heights and woods of the highlands. The miners would pay good money for the removal of these pests.
Recently a clan of ratlings that had travelled from the south have settled somewhere in the hills. This clan passed through Sturnheim but the residents did not welcome the ratlings and they continued east.

Arne the Cursed Shifter
Sir Nycklos of Roeh. This old man in rusted armour has been seen from time to time guarding the Forsaken Road in the heights of the hills. (He is even older than he looks in the picture, with whisps of white hair and beard).
- Saving Sturnheim Campaign. Velina took up Sir Nycklos's challenge and bested him in combat. She did the right thing in simply tapping the old knight with her sword.
Sir Nycklos then invited the group to camp. He told them that he was one of four surviving members of the Frontier Fiends - a group of adventurers that tried to restore Sturnheim's fortunes not long after the treasures were lost. He spoke of how the fought a red dragon and he was sad to hear that his old companion, Poot, had been attacked.
When the group spoke of the stone sword, he thought of an old statue he has come across in the hills with a gate into the hillside nearby. He gave the characters directions and offered to look after their horses (and only eat one if it dies).
Velina and Malgorath helped shine and restore Sir Nycklos's armour and weapons during their stay.
