ELSIRCROSS

Elsir cross is a large village in the northeastern Elsir Vale near the Marth Forest.

Description. Elsircross is collection of ramshackle dwellings that has sprawled outside the original palisade walls. Log huts line the banks of the Elsir River here. It is clear the area has undergone an increase in population in recent years and the old 'walled' part of town looks shabby and old against the new-cut logs of the newer homes. A huge new inn welcomes travellers on the north side of the ford. Bright yellow banners fly above the gates to the old section. (Pictured below is only the old part of the village. The town is five times larger. Also, north should be to the right of the map, not top.)

COMMON KNOWLEDGE

The Elsir River can be forded at Elsircross. The town itself has prospered of late as lumber has been needed for the rebuilding of the western vale following the Red Hand invasion. Furthermore the wealth from the mines in Red Rock pass through Elsircross.

REGIONAL FEATURES

The Hound & Tails.

Like much of the inner village, this tavern has seen better days. The 'tails' of the name are those of foxes, as the battered painted sign shows.

Gates

Rickety wooden gates that have hooks to hang lanterns on at night look like they would yield little resistance to anyone desperate to get in. In contrast to the battered gates, two clean and prominent banners fly above them proudly displaying the Trask blazon of a sable rampant puma with a fish in its mouth on yellow.

Palisade

This collection of uprights held in place by rotting rope looks very old and in need of repair. The many gaps and decaying wood would mean anyone desperate would not need to scale the 15 foot high wall. The rickety gates are not in much better shape. They have hooks for lanterns at night and a small hut for guards nearby.

The Stone Maiden

A newly build timber tavern and inn on the left of the river crossing, opposite the old town. Has its own small pier for halfling river traffic and accommodations for halflings.

Run by an elf barmaid by the name of Kresimiri Goldenbow. She had several halflings in her employ. Otto is one of those halflings and is a popular bar tender here.

  • Scales of War Campaign: PCs drank with Lyntern Trask here. Wolf and Celorin befriended some of the halfling staff, including Otto.

Tauster's Tower

Only stone building in the old village. The small, two-story tower nestles next to a plain wooden house.

This the home to Tauster, an elderly and short wizard of note.

  • Scales of War Campaign

PCs met Tauster and delivered a package for him. He thanked them and after some discussion about bandits he began to worry that his apprentice was due to arrive at the start of the new year but has not. He wished to prepare some notes and asked the PCs to see him before they left if they were interested in helping.

PEOPLE OF ELSIRCROSS

The people here are thought of as none-too-bright by the folk of Brindol.

The humans here do show a lot of mixed heritage, though there are no Shentulkans in the town. Elves are also not present, nor are ratlings.

The dwarves are stout mountain dwarves, mostly operating between here and Red Rock.

Halfling river folk bring their barges to Elsircross. They gather west of the ford. Some stout rural folk settlers can also be seen around town.

ADVENTURERS

Most likely adventurers in the realm.
